“Good morning London!! It’s a perky 6:00AM local time...the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the streets are buzzing with excitement—Ok maybe it’s only me who’s buzzing, I’m on about my sixth cup of coffee this morning, but I think you all get the picture.
It’s another scorcher folks! But then again what can you expect? It’s August after all, and like any good English summer, I suggest you all start lathering on the sun screen, unless those red-headed Weasleys haven’t already bought out Diagon Alley’s stock. HAH! Oh Merlin, I can already tell it’s going to be a good show. Remember you heard it first here on Potterwatch, the only station that spontaneously keeps you up to date with all the latest music, weather, and news. I’m River and I will be with you lovely ladies and gents for the next hour!
In recent news, newly elected Minister of Magic Kingsley Shacklebolt has recently been quoted as saying “There will be no tolerance for the mistreatment of muggleborn witches and wizards. The discrimination is a thing of the past and as the Ministry continues to be restructured it is [Shacklebolt’s] duty to ensure that the public never faces such scrutiny again.” The misuse of magic against muggles has still run rampantly underground since the end of the war as some people are failing to acknowledge the new system. It seems those Death Eater alumni who slipped through the cracks are fighting the Ministry at every turn to make sure their barbaric prejudices are continued to be implemented. What a load eh?
In Potter news, HP has been seen at many Ministry functions over the last few months, seemingly becoming Shacklebolt’s right hand man. Can someone smell poster child? Well I at least hope he’s getting paid well for it. Merlin knows no amount could be enough for the work that has to be done to revamp the mess of a Ministry’s image, but if anyone can do it I have complete faith it would be Potter. Even with the Dark Lord dead and gone Potter still remains the Chosen One in more ways than one.
News only seems to be getting from poor to disturbing this morning folks as it just came in that there has been another dark arts raid in Knocturn Alley last night. It has been reported that late last night five shops were raided and trashed. Aurors on the scene say that these riots are connected to the recent riots in Wiltshire, Manchester, and here in London but would not specify in what way. Ok, here’s the deal, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out these riots have been connected. Let’s see....they all have occurred in popular wizarding spots following laws being set by the Ministry that promote greater peace and equality amongst muggles and wizards...oh, and here’s the kicker! All the assailants have been reported to be wearing mock up hooded robes quite reminiscent to those the Death Eaters wore. So I guess other than been exceptionally good looking I’m also exceedingly smart as I must be the only one in the world to figure out that these attacks are anything but random. They are crying out and I just hope the Ministry isn’t ignoring these last calls for power by those left bitter after HP defeated their master.
BAM! Way to hit you with a ton of bricks so early in the morning right? Well, that’s what you get, the what’s what in everything going on that other stations are too afraid to say. Here at Potterwatch well tell you nothing but the truth. No tricks or gimmicks...ok maybe a few tricks but hey, I need to keep my spirits up somehow!
Taking this down a completely unrelated road, Quidditch is getting back into the swing of things very soon, with preseasons starting for many of the Professional teams. Puddlemere United looks strong with Hogwarts alum, Oliver Wood leading the way. The Holyhead Harpies have signed Ginny Weasley on a one year deal---it seems that Harry Potter’s girlfriend packs just as much punch as her famous beau as she inks the deal that many thought Harry would get after the war. In the Euro leagues, Norway’s Karasjok Kites have let go of chaser Angelina Johnson after she sustained a career ending injury at the end of the play offs last season. Rotten luck—she was always such a stunner in school. Believe me when I say angels take human forms in girls like Ang---oh look at me getting all hot and bothered! Anyways rotten luck to the beautiful Johnson, maybe if she gets a bit bored over in Norway she could pay me a little visit.
The number one joke shop in London, the Wealseys’ Wizarding Wheezes, is taking some hard hits this week as their competitors have miraculously started to produce similar items that were always signature Weasley creations in their shops, making customers go the cheaper route to get their pranking needs fixed. Hopefully these knock offs won’t hurt the pranker in charge of them but you never know when it comes to copy cats. When asked about the recent incidents owner George Weasley did not wish to comment.

In other headlines, Hogwarts representative Minerva McGonagall has announced the completion of the extensive War memorial located on Hogwarts grounds. This memorial is tributes to all that fought and were lost in the second war in 1998. Believe me when I say this is a beautiful piece of work that brings tears to your eyes. Each of the 100 victims of the May battle of Hogwarts has their own pace of rest and memory. I must say you all need to see this and pay your respects. You will not be disappointed.
As always I must list the disappearances and deaths up to this point. We have chosen not to expel this part of the program in peace time because from all accounts we here at Potterwatch believe that there are things keeping this war time terror upon us. The war may be over but it’s still very real in the hearts and minds of Wizarding England.
Disappearances as of August, 2000 are as follows;
Rabastan Lestrange
Mr.Crabbe Sr.
Flora Carrow
The real George Weasley—let’s face it whomever is impersonating him right now is doing a rather poor job of it.
Deaths as of August 2000 are as follows;
Rodophus Lestrange, died in Azkaban yesterday.
